Mateusz Mayer

Fellow, 2018-19

PhD candidate

PhD candidate Mateusz Mayer received a Casa Muraro Summer Research Fellowship to spend 6 weeks in Venice finalizing his dissertation proposal on the artistic intersections between sixteenth-century Venice and the Holy Roman Empire. He is studying works of art in situ, visiting major museum collections, especially the Museo Correr and the Gallerie dell’Accademia, and consulting sources at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, the Biblioteca Marciana, the Archivio di Stato, and the Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani.  With this research itinerary, Mateusz hopes to refine his research objectives around the questions of how German artists, merchants, and envoys actively participated in the artistic life of the Venetian Republic.
